Manchester City’s John Stones makes things happen for his team and that should be encouraged, according to Jamie Vardy.

The Leicester striker benefitted from some slack City defending during Saturday’s clash at the King Power Stadium but believes Stones should receive the support of those at City.

John Percy for the Telegraph writes: “Vardy has defended the signing and insisted he does not deserve to be attacked over his style of play.

“”They are a passing team and their centre-halves are the ones that start if off after the keeper’s given it to them. You can’t criticise him at all for that, he wants to get on the ball and wants to make things happen,” he said.

““That’s a good thing for him, I’ve obviously been training with him with England and you can see the ability he’s got. Why change that?””

Meanwhile, Pablo Zabaleta has put the loss down to the performance on the day and not a lack of preparation for the Premier League champions.

Robert Cottingham for the Manchester Evening News reports: “Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta thinks his side were prepared for the threat of Leicester City but just didn’t perform on the day.

“City were weak in defence and guilty of over playing from the back line during Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to the Premier League champions.

“Though they enjoyed the lion’s share of possession during the match, Leicester hit City on the counter-attack and were three nil up after 20 minutes.

“We were talking before the game about Leicester, we know that team very well,” Zabaleta said.

“They’ve been doing it for more than two years now, playing in counter attack and defending very deep, playing so fast with the players they have.

“We controlled them very well but we gave them chances, we gave them easy chances.”

Finally, the rumours surrounding Tottenham defender Danny Rose have intensified over the weekend, with a number of papers now believing City are ready to make a move.

Naveen Ullal in the International Business Times scribes: “City scouts have watched the England international closely in recent weeks and the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager is impressed with the reports he has received so far.

“Any move from City in signing the Tottenham star will see them face competition from local rivals Manchester United. The Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is also planning to bring a left-back to Old Trafford and Rose has emerged as a transfer target.”
