Bony moves to Stoke on season-long loan

Manchester City can confirm Wilfried Bony has joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the 2016/17 season.

After joining the Blues from Swansea in January 2015, Bony’s debut for the club was delayed by Ivory Coast’s successful African Cup of Nations campaign.

Wilfried made his debut as a late substitute in City’s 5-0 home victory over Newcastle United towards the end of February and was called upon three days later to make an impact in City’s Champions League home tie with Barcelona when his team were 2-0 down.

It worked as the striker’s presence helped Manuel Pellegrini’s side to pull a goal back and give themselves a chance heading to the Nou Camp.

Although City lost in Spain, Bony ended the season showing signs of form with his first goal coming in a 3-0 defeat of West Brom.

The 27-year-old scored his first goals of the 2015/16 campaign with a brace in a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Bournemouth.

However, it was in the Champions League trip to Sevilla that Bony made his biggest impact. Utilising his strength, Bony occupied the defence and scored a cool placed finish from 12 yards as part of the 3-1 victory at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Bony struggled to make an impact throughout the rest of the season as City favoured a one-striker formation, with Sergio Aguero leading the line.

As such, he is yet to make an appearance this season and he will now spend the rest of the campaign at Mark Hughes’ Stoke City.

Everyone at City would like to wish Wilfried the best of luck.
