Off it too the good news just kept on coming throughout the season, most notably with a raft of new contract renewals for key players.

First up was last October’s confirmation that midfield marvel Kevin De Bruyne had signed a new five-year deal with the Club, tying Kevin to City until 2023.

It was just reward for a stunning season by the 26-year-old Belgian who finished the season as the Premier League’s leading assist-maker

Just over a month later, KDB’s midfield colleague David Silva also extended his stay at City by agreeing a new one-year contract extension.

El Mago arguably had his finest-season yet in a City shirt and, along with De Bruyne was one of the towering figures in the Club’s Premier League and Carabao Cup triumphs.

And at the age of 32, the Spanish midfield maestro demonstrated he is getting better and better each season and revelling under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

The advent of the New Year saw even more positive news with fellow midfielder Fernandinho agreeing a new two-year with the Club.

Described by manager Guardiola as one of the ‘three best holding midfielders in the world,’ Ferna was another to enjoy his best-season todate, having joined the Club from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013.

The good news kept on coming in January with defender Nicolas Otamendi following suit by signing a new contract committing him to the Club until 2022.

The Argentine central defender was a veritable rock at the heart of the City back-line and his magnificent season was recognised by his fellow professionals when he was named in the PFA’s Premier League team of the season.

More excellent news was then confirmed in May with the revelation that goalkeeper Ederson had signed a new deal committing him to the Club until 2025.

The Brazilian enjoyed a magnificent first season at City following his move from Benfica, keeping 21 clean sheets and earning a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

28Teen spirit

The exciting emergence of teenager Phil Foden was another of the many highlights in City’s historic season.

The 18-year-old, who hails from Stockport, impressed on last summer’s pre-season tour to the United States and then emerged as a one of the central figures for England at the FIFA Un17 World Cup in India.

Not only did Phil help England lift the trophy, he was also won the Golden Ball awarded to the tournament’s best player.

He then made his senior debut for the City against Feyenoord in the Champions League, becoming the Club’s youngest-ever player to figure in European competition.

Phil then became the youngest Englishman to start a Champions League game when he played against Shakhtar Donetsk and he went to make a number of impressive cameo appearances in the Premier League, and came on off the bench in the last match of the season at Southampton to qualify for a Premier League winners’ medal.

Not bad for a first season’s work in the senior ranks!
